Camino de Santiago by bicycle

Camino de Santiago by bike is an increasingly popular option. The favorite route for cycling the Camino is the French Way from León to Santiago de Compostela, but there are multiple options that can be followed on two wheels to reach the feet of the Apostle. The Northern Way, the Primitive Way, the Portuguese Way or the aforementioned French Way in its many variants are ideal for cycling.

Camino de Santiago by bike allows us to face much longer routes than the usual stages of the Camino de Santiago on foot. Although pilgrims usually walk an average of twenty kilometers each day, in the case of cycling the Camino, it is normal to do at least twice as much. In any case, the length of the stages can be adapted to the wishes and physical abilities of each pilgrim.

We must bear in mind that, to achieve the long-awaited Compostela, the official certificate issued by the Pilgrim’s Office certifying that we have completed the Camino de Santiago, the minimum route by bike will be 200 kilometers.

It is possible to do the Camino de Santiago by bike either mostly along the traditional route or completely by road. The orography and the firmness of the terrain of the Camino de Santiago is another of the parameters that we must consider, since the physical demand varies when facing the route on two wheels.
