Xacobeo 2021-2022
The beginning of 2021 brought us the news that the holy year the Año Santo Xacobeo will be extended for another year, that is, this time there will be a holy biennium, Xacobeo 2021-2022.
The Vatican last week decided to extend the Holy Year 2021 to 2022 due to the exceptional circumstances of its celebration due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pope Francis himself sent a letter to Compostela to welcome the start of such a special event.
On January 31st the opening ceremony of the Holy Door took place, the solemn act with which the Xacobeo year begins, this time with the occasion of Xacobeo 2021-2022. During the ceremony the video was presented which welcomed the Holy Year. a journey through the soul of Galicia.
With the intervention of famous personalities such as the writers Manuel Rivas and Paulo Coelho, the musicians Carlos Núñez, The Cheftains, Amaral (interpretation of the wonderful medieval cantiga “Ondas do mar de Vigo“), Iván Ferreiro, Tanxugueiras, Fon Román, Andrés Suárez among others Rozalén, Xabier Díaz, Alejandro Sanz or Julio Iglesias as well as people from all over the world who feel the Galician spirit, this video takes a journey through the history and landscapes of Galicia. It also gives us the opportunity to hear the sound of Compostela’s typical musicians, those of the Pórtico de la Gloria.
