The Camino Portugués from Vigo to Santiago is the alternative to the Way that leaves from Porto along the coast, instead of the inland route that enters Galicia through Tui. It is a route of a hundred kilometers of little difficulty. It is long enough to obtain the Compostela when arriving in Santiago. We will enjoy the good climate of the southern coast of Galicia. It is always nicer than that of the north, with milder temperatures and much less abundant rainfall.
Starting on the fourth day of this Camino Portugues from Vigo to Santiago, our route will take place inland, following in the footsteps of the “Traslatio” of the Apostle. He entered Galicia through the Ría de Arousa.
The beginning of our tour is the city of Vigo, one of the main cities in Galicia. It usually surprises due to its size and cosmopolitan style. Although it also has the classic charm of Galician historic centers.
Vigo is the largest city in Galicia. Open to the sea and steeped in tradition, it is also a modern, cosmopolitan town with significant industry and, above all, port activity of capital importance.
The entire historic center still exudes the flavor of what was once a fishing village. Men and women of the sea who were also the first heroes capable of recovering their sovereignty against the French occupation in the 19th Century. The most modern area boasts wide avenues, imposing buildings and works of art at street level that tell us the story of the city. A place for urban tourism without losing sight of the greatest natural treasures that can be found at its feet: such as central parks, magnificent beaches, a forest belt and, of course, the incredible Cíes Islands.
Leaving Vigo, in the town of Redondela we will meet the pilgrims who make the central route of the Portuguese Way from Tui. From this point, the paths join. Once we have left the coastal route, beautiful landscapes of the interior of Galicia await us: forests, vineyards and cultivated fields until we reach Santiago de Compostela.
Buen Camino!
Vigo is the largest fishing port in Spain and also a cosmopolitan city that combines tradition and modernity. It is worthwhile, on this first day of arrival, to take a walk through its Old Town, enjoy the wonderful gastronomy of Galicia in its good restaurants and get lost in the shopping streets of the center. On the horizon, the Cíes Islands, an Atlantic paradise.

We leave Vigo in the direction of Senda da Traida das Augas, where the route leads us to Redondela, where our route inland meets the Portuguese route. Before the Camino reaches this point, it passes near Trasmañó. Some pilgrims opt for a deviation of ~ approx. 5 km to see the impressive waterfall. The forests and the inlets remain our companions on the road during the stage. When we finally pass Redondela, we reach Cesantes.

The last stage of the caminos. We will cross the N550 road several times and be guided by the railway line. We first hike towards Iria Flavia and then begin an ascent to “O Milladoiro” to finally see the towers of the cathedral as we approach Santiago. Here the desire to arrive is combined with the pain of parting, that this unique experience is over.
